AB - This study aimed to assess the effects of different dietary levels of the protease enzyme
and sex on skin, bone and muscle yields and percentages of breast, drumsticks and thighs
as the most valuable carcass parts of broilers. A total of 300 one-day-old, mixed-sex
broiler chickens (Cobb 500) were randomly divided into 3 dietary treatments with
different levels of protease supplementation (group C: a standard diet without Ronozyme
ProAct; group E-I: a diet with 200 mg/kg Ronozyme ProAct and a 4% crude protein
reduction compared to the standard diet; and group E-II: a diet with 300mg/kg Ronozyme
ProAct and a 6% crude protein reduction compared to the standard diet). All diets were
maize- and soybean meal-based. Feed and water were provided ad libitum throughout the
49-day feeding trial. The results obtained indicate that the dietary treatments had no
significant effect on skin, bone and muscle yields and percentages of the drumsticks,
thighs and breast (P > 0.05), except for the breast muscle weight in the female chickens
(especially between the E-I and E-II groups), and the drumstick bone percentage in the
males between the C and E-2 groups (P < 0.05). In all three groups, the male chickens
exhibited higher weights of skin, muscle and bone in breast, drumsticks and thighs than
the female chickens, and the differences were not significant only in the skin weight of
drumsticks and thighs (P > 0.05). The females had a higher yield of muscle tissue in
breast and drumsticks, a higher percentage of skin in drumsticks and thighs, and a lower
percentage of bone in drumsticks and thighs than the males (P < 0.05). Major differences
resulted from the effect of broiler sex, whereas the dietary treatments containing 3 levels
of protease supplementation had a very small effect on the yields and percentages of skin,
bone and muscle in breast, drumsticks and thighs.

AB - The effects of feeding low dietary crude protein with
supplemental protease and sex on the weight and percent yields of individual
meat classes in broiler chickens of hybrid Cobb 500 were investigated. A total of
300 day-old broiler chicks were fed with one of the following three
experimental diets: control group (C), the experimental group I (E-I) contained
4% less crude protein than the control (C) and were supplemented with protease
(Ronozyme Pro Act) at a concentration of 200mg/kg feed and the experimental
group II (E-II) contained 6% less crude protein and were supplemented with
protease (Ronozyme Pro Act) at a concentration of 300mg/kg feed.
Supplementation of protease to diets had no significant effects on weights
of individual meat classes (P>0.05), as well as the percentage of meat classes,
and the only differences were manifested between E-I and E-II (P<0.05, female
broilers from the E-I group were had a higher percentage of class I meat and a
lower percentage of class III meat compared to females from the E-II group).
The effect of sex was manifested in the weights of all meat classes and the
percentage of class I meat and class III meat (P<0.05).

AB - This study analyses the effect of different protein levels in broiler feeds (supplemented with
protease), different lengths of fattening period and sex on body conformation in fast-growing
Cobb 500 broilers. Complete feeds for broilers in experimental groups E-I and E-II contained 4
and 6% less crude protein than the control (C) and were supplemented with protease (Ronozyme
Pro Act) at a concentration of 200mg/kg feed and 300mg/kg feed respectively. At 49 and 63 days
of age, 10 male and 10 female broilers were randomly selected from each experimental group and
slaughtered. Body conformation measurement included absolute carcass conformation measures
(metatarsus length, keel length, breast depth, breast angle, thigh girth) and relative body
conformation measures - conformation indices (body weight/metatarsus length, body weight/keel
length, body weight/breast depth, body weight/thigh girth). The results showed that dietary
treatment did not affect conformation measures, as well as that the time of slaughter and sex of
chickens had a significant effect on the examined carcass quality parameters. Namely, the length
of the fattening period affected all conformation indices, as well as some absolute measures of
carcass conformation - metatarsus length, keel length and thigh girth, while sex had a significant
effect on the values of the all absolute values of carcass conformation (except for breast angle)
and indices body weight/keel length and body weight/breast depth.

AB - This study compared weight and percent yields of primal
carcass cuts of commercial fast-growing broiler - Cobb 500 and medium-growing
broiler genotype - Master Gris. Three hundred Cobb 500 chickens and three
hundred Master Gris chickens were used for the experiment. Feed and water were
provided ad-libitum. Treatments were: T1 - corn-soybean meal based control diet;
T2: T1 − 4.0% crude protein than in the control diet + 0.2% protease and T3: T1 −
6.0% crude protein than in the control diet + 0.3% protease. Chickens were
slaughtered at 49 days of age. Medium-growing hybrid Master Gris had a lower
weight of all primal carcass cuts and breast yield (as a percentage of ready-to-grill
carcass weight), as well as higher thighs, drumsticks, wings and pelvis yields in
comparison with the Cobb 500 broilers (P<0.05), except back yield (P>0.05). Also,
the addition of protease to broiler feed had no significant effect on the weight and
percent yields of primal carcass cuts (P>0.05).

AB - Pulmonary hypertension syndrome or ascites is a complex problem in poultry production. This disease has multiple causes, including genetic factors (genotype, sex) and non-genetic factors (altitude, improper egg incubation, ambient conditions in the poultry house, diet, etc.). Results from numerous studies have shown that improper diet and its interaction with other factors are among major reasons for the incidence of ascites symptoms. The objective of this study was to highlight major nutritional aspects related to pulmonary hypertension syndrome in broiler chickens. Therefore, particular attention should be paid to the dietary levels of antioxidant compounds, some minerals, energy and protein, feed forms, type of diet, and feed supplementation with ingredients which reduce the incidence of ascites.

AB - The objective of the present study was to investigate nutritional and metabolic status in Simmental cows during early and mid-lactation. Fifteen early lactating cows and 15 mid lactating cows were chosen for the investigation. Blood samples were collected to measure beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB), nonesterified fatty acids (NEFA), triglycerides (TG), glucose and the activity of aspartate transaminase (AST). Early lactation as compared to mid lactating cows were found to have significantly higher (P (lt) 0.05) blood serum concentrations of NEFA, BHB and AST and lower blood serum concentrations of glucose (P (lt) 0.05) and TG (P>0.05). Significantly negative correlations were observed between BHB and glucose (P (lt) 0.01), BHB and TG (P (lt) 0.05), NEFA and glucose (P (lt) 0.05). Significantly positive correlations were observed between NEFA and BHB (P (lt) 0.05), NEFA and AST (P (lt) 0.05), glucose and TG (P (lt) 0.01). The results suggest that these parameters can serve as useful indicators of the nutritional and metabolic status of dairy cows during lactation.

AB - Estrus synchronization methods was use to control the reproductive traits of sheep, as well as bringing more females at the same stage of estrus and ovulation. According to the points mentioned above, the aim of the present study was to investigate and compare mating method and influence of fixed factors on birth and weaning weight of lambs. Statistical analysis showed that exist difference in the body weights between genotypes of lambs. In the first group, the difference in weight of lambs at birth, regardless of mating method was not significant (P> 0.05), while in the second group, the difference was slightly significant (P (lt) 0.05). As for the birth type, sex and within the same genotype, there was a statistical significance (P (lt) 0.05) between singles obtained naturally, between the triplets obtained naturally and between triplets received hormonal method. All the differences between body weight at 30 days (mating method, sex and birth type under the same genotype) were statistically significant (P (lt) 0.05).The determined differences in the body weights at 60 days (sex, mating method and type of birth under the same genotype) were statistically significant (P (lt) 0.05). The results showed that the differences (mating method, sex and type of birth under the same genotype) were statistically significant (P (lt) 0.05), except in between body weight at 90 days in twins among two genotypes obtained by natural method, which were not statistically significant (P> 0.05).

AB - The birth weight of lambs has an essential role in satisfying sheep production. Also reflected as primary factor later development of young organism. In the study included: gestation length, sire (two sires in each genotype during parenting), sex of lambs at birth, the birth weight of single lambs from well nourished mature ewes of the next genotypes: Miss (1), Wurttemberg (2) and Ile de France (3). The highest birth weight was obtained in genotype 3 with an average birth weight of 4.63 kg in sire 2 and 4.44 kg in sire 1 with a difference of 0.19 kg. Gestation length of genotype 1 ranged from 144 to 153 days; genotype 2, from 148 to 154 days and the genotype 3, from 144 to 151days. The highest average birth weight in genotype 1 with gestation length of 153 days weighed 5.10 kg. Average birth weights of male lambs in all genotypes were higher than the females. There were a very significant effect of genotype, sire, gestation length on birth weight of lambs (P (lt) 0.01), but sex have no significant effect on birth weight of lambs (0.065;P>0.05). The result achieved therefore can be explained that the effect of genotype, sire and gestation length and the interaction between subjects effects such as the next: Sire*Gestation length; Sire*Sex; Gestation length*Sex; Sire*Gestation length*Sex were highly and significantly affected the birth weight of lambs (P (lt) 0.01; P (lt) 0.05). The interactions between subjects' effects will be a good indicator to be acquainted more on their influence in a certain trait.

AB - This paper presents the results of reproductive characteristics and body development of the new breed of sheep in Serbia, called Mis sheep. Mis sheep as a type of sheep for meat, had been developed for the past 20 years at the Institute of Animal Husbandry, Belgrade-Zemun. Main method of development is complex combinatory three-breed crossing. As material, three breeds of sheep have been used in this project, namely: Pirot Pramenka, Merinolandschaf and Ile de France. Mis sheep is characterized by a strong constitution with emphasized carcass conformation and excellent meat traits. These are very persistent long-lived animals, well adjusted to conditions of the environment. Mis sheep are white without any spots. Sexual maturity is acquired at the age of 6-8 months, what includes them into the population of early maturing sheep. However, as well as in the case with other noble breeds their first fertilization should be at the age of 10 to 12 months. Mis sheep could be considered as sheep of higher fertility because from 100 sheep giving birth approximately 150 lambs are obtained. At the age of 90 days, the body weight of lambs is approximately 34.26 kg. At the age of 18 months, when sheep are already mature but not completely developed, the body weight is 71.63 kg. Finally, at the age over of 3 years, when they are completely developed, the average weight is 78.89 kg. The body weight of rams varies from 120-140 kg, although even in this case it depends on the production phase and use of male heads in breeding.

AB - Enzyme supplementation of poultry diets is nutritionally, economically and environmentally justified. Enzymes are used to increase the energy value of feed ingredients and enhance the utilisation of protein, fats, carbohydrates and phytin phosphorus from plant materials, leading to a lower excretion rate of undigested nutrients into the environment and, hence, reduced environmental pollution. This is especially important regarding proteases, as the correct digestion of nitrogenous compounds in feed materials is essential for reducing N excretion - a major pollutant worldwide. Numerous studies have shown no adverse effects of enzyme supplementation in broiler diets on body weight, mortality, health, feed intake, FCR, nutrient digestibility, meat quality and production costs. However, there is still a large amount of uncertainty regarding the use of enzymes.

AB - Efficiency of sheep production is conditioned by fertility. According to some authors number of offspring obtained per lambing is more important than gain of weight. Genetic relationships involving reproductive traits were seldom studied. Reproductive traits have low heritabilities, a discrete phenotypic expression, and are expressed only in sexually mature ewes leading to low selection intensities and long generation intervals. Documentation of realized selection response is also often complicated by the low heritabilities of fertility traits. Existence of a major gene affecting prolificacy had been suggested and at that time there were many sceptics who strongly doubted that a trait as complex as reproduction could be profoundly influenced by a single gene. Major genes affecting prolificacy in sheep was founded. A mutation in the bone morphogenetic protein 15 gene (BMP15, also known as GDF9B) responsible for high prolificacy in Inverdale sheep had been discovered and evidence of segregating major genes was being reported from flocks around the world. Development of gene mapping techniques, and locating alleles that are responsible for the fertility of sheep began a new chapter in predicting and controlling the fertility of sheep. The beneficial effects of nutrition on reproduction in sheep are well known. This procedure is known as flushing. The effect of Body Condition Score (BCS), before mating, during mating and after mating period, on reproductive efficiency of different breeds of sheep in the different rearing systems were studied. The farm manager has the ability to control or at least to manipulate the factors that have an impact on fertility.

AB - Carcass conformation is a very important parameter in assessing the overall appearance and meatiness of broilers. This study evaluates the effect of protease supplemented to reduced protein diets on production traits, dressed carcass weight and conformation measures in fast-growing Cobb 500 and slow-growing Master Gris broilers over a fattening period of 49 days. At slaughter, the following measurements were taken: pre-slaughter body weight (BW), conventionally dressed carcass weight and abdominal fat weight. Following carcass dissection into primal cuts, absolute conformation values, including metatarsus length (ML), keel length (KL), breast depth (BD), breast angle (BA) and thigh girth (TG), were determined. For carcass conformation evaluation purposes, index values of carcass conformation measures BW/ML, BW/KL, BW/BD and BW/TG were identified. Genotype and sex had a significant effect on dressed carcass weight and all conformation measures, whereas the effect of different protein levels in protease-supplemented diets was significant only in Master Gris, for metatarsus length and the following indices: BW/ML, BW/KL and BW/TG.
