AB - The greenhouse effect has led to a changed precipitation regime, an
increase in the average temperature, the occurrence of extreme meteorological
events (droughts and floods) and the like. All this harms the yield and quality of
feed, the incidence of mycotoxins in food, reduced productivity of animals, the
incidence of new and non-specific pathogens, the development of diseases, etc.
According to the FAO and the World Bank, the countries most affected by climate
change are the countries of Central Europe and the Mediterranean. The population
of people living in rural areas and engaged in agriculture will be particularly at
risk. With difficult working and living conditions and reduced incomes, there will
be an increased migration of the population to the cities. The simultaneous decline
in agricultural production and increased food demand will lead to a food supply
crisis (FAO predicts that by 2050 the global population will increase to 9.6 billion
people, resulting in a demand for 70% more food than in 2013).Cattle production is
affected by the climate in different ways, directly and indirectly. Livestock
condition, production level, reproductive performance, morbidity and mortality are
correlated with climatic conditions. The most pronounced negative impact on the
health and welfare of animals is a phenomenon called heat stress. Exposure to
microclimatic conditions characterized by a combination of high temperature and
air humidity overcomes the ability of animals to maintain normal thermoregulation
and constant body temperature, leading to an increase in body temperature that
exceeds physiological limits. In addition to the direct effects of heat stress on the
productivity, reproduction and health status of animals, global warming also affects
animals indirectly through reduced soil fertility, water availability, crop yields,
quality of plant nutrients and the circulation of pathogenic agents. Finding a
solution to mitigate and prevent the consequences of unfavourable climatic and
microclimatic conditions is a challenge for the entire scientific and professional
community, but also for every cattle breeder. Solutions can be biological and
technological. Biological ones refer to the animals themselves (breed selection,
selection for functional traits, selection for adaptability to heat stress, use of
genomic selection, artificial insemination programs, herd size). Technological
solutions relate to how animals are kept (free system, in outlets with canopies, use
of grazing), facilities (new materials and technical solutions in the construction of
facilities, use of insulating materials, regulation of microclimate conditions in
facilities - ventilation and air humidity), nutrition and feeding (feeding method,
feeding time, use of new types of feed, continuous water supply, etc.).The goal of
agricultural production is to ensure food security in the face of climate change, and
it is one of the most demanding tasks facing humanity

AB - Maize silage is source of palatable and high-energy forage for ruminants. Therefore, production of high quality forage
maize represents an essential strategy for stable production of milk and meat on livestock farms. This study examined the
effect of harvest date (early dent, at half milk line, at three quarters milk line and black layer) on the quantitative and
qualitative parameters of whole maize plant under contrasting climatic conditions in the Srem - Serbia. A 2 × 4 factorial
(two years and the four cutting times) randomized blocks design was used, with three replications. The plant height, stem
diameter, number of leaves per plant, forage yield, dry matter yield and dry matter content were higher in 2014 probably
due to favorable weather conditions. With the delay of the harvest the forage yield, crude protein content, acid detergent
fiber (ADF) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) decreased, and dry matter yield, dry matter content and ear percentage
increased. Sufficiently high dry matter content and ear percentage were achieved at the third harvest. However, the delay
of harvested time reduces the quality parameters of the biomass, but this loss in the entire plant is moderated by grain
filling.

AB - The aim of this research was to investigate the influence of the bull age on production and some semen quality traits. The semen was collected during 2014. The LSD test (Least Significant Difference) was used to compare the bulls of different age groups and the results of this test showed in some cases significant differences. This test showed that there was no significant difference in ejaculate volume between six-year-old and four-year-old bulls, but in two-year-old bulls a significant difference to older bull groups was determined. The results showed that there was a significant effect of the bull age (p<0.001) on the ejaculate volume and the number of doses per ejaculate.

AB - The objective of this paper was to study variability, heritability and correlation of the three production traits in 1409 first-calf heifers of Holstein-Friesian breed; including the determination of the quantity of milk during lactation (ML), the quantity of milk fat during lactation (MM) and the quantity of protein during lactation (PR). According to the obtained results it could be concluded that there were statistically significant differences (P<0.01, P<0.05, P<0.001) between ML, MM and PR regarding the effect of season of the first calving and the length of the first lactation. In addition, there were also significant differences (P<0.01, P<0.001) between ML and PR with respect to the effect of farm on which animals were raised, while on MM variability the year and age at first calving had a significant effect (P<0.05). A share of Holstein genes and the ration which animals were fed had no effect (P>0.05) on variability of
any of the examined traits, while the farm on which animals were raised had no effect (P>0.05) on MM, and year and age at first calving did not demonstrate (P>0.05) statistically significant effect on ML and PR. By applying the animal model, based on the use of kinship matrix which involved 3867 animals, by help of REML methodology following heritability coefficients were evaluated: ML h2 = 0.25; MM h2 = 0.40; PR h2 = 0.37. Coefficients determined for genetic and phenotypic correlations indicated existence of complete and positive correlations between these traits the interval of values being from rg = 0.96 between ML and MM to rg = 1.00 between ML and PR.

AB - Tannins represent a heterogeneous group of polyphenolic compounds that are characterized by the ability to precipitate proteins, polysaccharides and minerals. These are phenolic secondary compounds of plants that are mostly (over 80%) found in woody perennial dichotyledonous plants and a smaller part (around 15%) in annual and perennial dicotyledon plants, but also present in nutrients, human food and some drinks (wine on example) and represent the fourth largest group of compounds in the vesicular tissue, after cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin. Tannins consist of 12 to 16 phenolic groups and 5-7 aromatic rings. They are found in almost all parts of the plant: in the seeds, fruits, leaves, trees, roots and roots, and their primary function is to protect the plant against pathogens, insects, pests and herbivores. Although there are several classifications, the main division of tannin is on condensed and hydrolisable tannins. Tannins are characterized by astringency, resistance to taste and have long been considered only antinutritive substances that lead to numerous disorders and animal health problems. From the 80s of the 20th century, their positive impact on animals is examined. Plants can contain up to 20% tannin in dry matter. The content of tannin depends on the plant species, phenophase, and changes in accordance with environmental conditions. The most commonly studied fodder cultures containing tannins are: Birdsfoot trefoil (Lotus corniculatus) with tannin content of 20-40 g / kg of dry matter, then Sainfoin (Onobrichis vicifolia) with 5-22 mg / g green leaf, hops (Humulus sp.), chicory (Chicorium intybus), Coronilla varia, Astragalus cicer, sulla (Hedysarum coronarium), Ceratonia siliqua and others. In recent years, tannin extracts of woody species, primarily oak (Quercus sp) and chestnuts (Castanea sp), are used in ruminant nutrition, which, depending on the producer, contain about 70% tannin. Proteins are the most expensive component of animal feed and are striving for better use. In the feed of ruminants, due to sterile fermentation, certain protein losses occur. For this reason, it seeks to increase the content of proteins in food for the ruminants that avoids fermentation (the so-called "by-pass" protein). Tannins with proteins in the conditions of a neutral environment (such as in the rumen) create insoluble complexes, while in the acidic environment (such as in the small intestine) there is a degradation of these complexes. Thanks to these tannin properties, it may be possible to increase the content of by-pass proteins in ruminant nutrition and thus to better normalize the meals. Reactivity of tannin depends on their source, shape, concentration, pH of the environment, the types of proteins with which they react and other factors. Due to the use of tannins, optimum protein utilization can be achieved, which can lead to improved animal productivity (higher growth, better food conversion, higher yields), and changes in the fatty acid composition of meat and milk due to modified fermentation. It has also been observed that tannins increase the resistance of ruminants to intestinal parasites, improve antioxidant properties and contribute to a better health condition of animals. On the other hand, if tannin concentrations in animal feed are too high, negative effects can be observed, some of which are: low consumption of food due to unpleasant taste, reduced digestibility of fibers and sugar, lower growth, different forms of animal intoxication and other . Also, tannins besides protein can also react with enzymes, as well as with non-protein organic nitrogen compounds. The use of tannin in ruminant nutrition is very actual. However, more research is needed to determine the optimum concentrations of various tannins from different sources and fully understand their role, digestibility and reactivity in the animal's organism.

AB - Central Serbia has a long tradition of cattle farming and, as a
hilly-mountainous area it favors rearing of dual purpose Simmental breed, and to a
lesser extent, Holstein-Friesian dairy breed. The first Herd Book of Serbia was
founded in 1935. The high quality breeding animals registered are under the
control of production performance properties. According to expert report of the
Institute for Animal Husbandry and the results of the implementation of the
breeding program in 2018 in the territory of Central Serbia, there were a total of
153.979 quality breeding animals of Simmental and 16509 quality breeding
animals of Holstein-Friesian breed in the main herd. Both breeds are of national
interest and are included in the breeding-selection program for dairy cattle that are
implemented through the cooperation of breeders and breeding organizations in the
field. In Central Serbia, there are 157 registered breeding organizations involved in
breeding and livestock recording activities. In this paper, data of the Head breeding
organization in cattle farming, the Institute for Animal Husbandry, as well as
reports issued by the same entity each year were used. A tabular analysis and a
five-year trend are presented according to: the number of recorded animals,
primiparous females in linear evaluation, the realized yield of milk, milk fat and
protein, as well as the trend of the number of bull dams in the population. Based on
the analysis of the results of work on cattle breeding and selection, it can be
concluded that some progress has been made in milk production of both breeds. It
is important to emphasize that there is a significant effect of mentioned factors on
the productivity of entire cattle population in Central Serbia. Systematic work on
the breeding and selection of cattle is an important work that should be carried out
in high quality, continuously and appropriately in order to achieve maximum
effects in cattle production.

AB - The main goal of this research was to examine, using modern
methods, the variability of phenotypic correlations of production performances and
reproductive properties of Simmental cows reared on the farms of individual
agricultural producers, in different breeding areas of the Republic of Serbia. The
study of phenotypic correlations of milk performance and fertility properties in
different regions of Serbia was carried out on a total of 3.056 primi parous
Simmental heifers under control, with lactations completed within one year. The
examined animals were reared on different individual farms, and mainly in very
different conditions of housing and nutrition, depending on the breeding area. The
study of phenotypic correlations included the following milk performance traits:
milk yield, milk fat content, milk fat yield, yield of 4% corrected milk; and fertility
properties: age at first calving and service period.
The results of the study among other things indicate that although the
phenotypic correlations between the fertility and milk performance properties show
different degrees of variation, they should be taken into account in the final
assessment of the breeding value of the animal, so that the breeding selection
programs are more comprehensively designes.

AB - The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of the κ-casein and β-lactoglobulin genotypes of the daughters of 5 Simmental bulls (sires) used for insemination in Serbia. Blood samples were taken from a total of 157 cows of the Simmental breed in Toplica and Rasina districts. Cows from which blood samples were taken were the daughters of the following bulls: Rorb B033, Dionis B52, Val B064, Rondi B029 and Res 1433. In all daughters of studied bulls, the presence of all three genotypes was determined, except for daughters of bull sire Res B1433, where the absence of genotype BB was determined. In addition to determining the frequency of genotypes and alleles for both milk protein fractions, based on the χ2 test, a link between the sire and the presence of genotypes was determined, and in both cases a statistically significant relationship (p≤0.001) was found.

AB - The aim of this research was to investigate the influence of the
bull i.e. genotype on the observed traits of semen quality and to determine whether
there are significant differences between bulls in terms of semen production. The
study included 9 bulls of the Holstein-Friesian breed from the Livestock Center of
PKB Corporation. The effect of the bull on certain semen properties (ejaculate
volume, sperm concentration, sperm motility in the native ejaculate, sperm
dilution, number of doses per ejaculate, sperm motility after thawing) was analyzed
and data were collected during 2014. During this period, a total of 326 ejaculates
from 9 bulls were collected and average values for the tested properties were
determined and the effect of the bull on those properties was analyzed. The results
showed that there was a very significant effect of the bull (p<0.001) on the degree
of sperm dilution and the number of doses per ejaculate. Significant influence
(p<0.01) was found in ejaculate volume traits, sperm concentration, sperm motility
in the native ejaculate, while in sperm motility after thawing no significant effect
(p> 0.05) of the bull was determined. The LSD test (Least Significant Difference)
was used to compare the bulls and the results of this test showed in most cases
significant differences between the bulls.

AB - The research was performed on Holstein-Friesian and Black and White bull dams reared on five farms of Agricultural Corporation of Belgrade - PKB. The study included 575 lactations of cows selected as bull dams and their progeny calved in the period from 2007 - 2014 and represent progeny of 24 bulls. The following dairy traits were analysed in a standard lactation (305 days): milk yield (kg) - MY, milk fat content (%) - % MF, milk fat yield (kg) - MFY, protein content (%) - % PC and protein yield (kg) - PY. Holstein-Friesian bull dams and their progeny, in standard lactation, produced on average 9239.84 +/- 1607.64 kg of milk, with a milk fat content of 3.44 +/- 0.20 and protein content of 3.21 +/- 0.12. The impact of bull - sire, year of birth, lactation order, farm, year and calving season was present at different levels of statistical significance on yield traits, while the genetic group had no influence on any of the milk traits. Bull sire, year of birth, lactation order and calving season did not influence the variability of milk fat and protein content. Heritability of observed milk traits was medium to low. The content of milk fat and protein had the lowest values of heritability, 0.014, and 0.024, respectively. The heritability of milk yield, milk fat yield and protein yield was 0.293, 0.319 and 0.273, respectively.

AB - Determining the degree of correlation between two or more traits depends to a large extent on their manifestation. The knowledge of genetic and phenotypic correlations between body characteristics of the animal and product characteristics can help define the breeding goal, but also to define and harmonize the assessment criteria. Although the phenotypic and genetic correlations between the traits of body development and type and the milk yield show different degrees of variation, they should be taken into account in the final assessment of the breeding value of the animal so that the selection programs are more comprehesively defined. The examination of phenotypic correlations of linear assessment scores of the type, milk and fertility traits was performed on a total of 303 cows of the Simental breed in the first three lactations. The examination of phenotypic correlations included the following milk performance properties in the first three standard lactations: milk yield, milk fat content, milk fat yield, yield of 4% corrected milk; also fertility traits: age at current calving and service period in each lactation; while the linear type scoring included a group of traits: type or frame, muscularity, fundament, udder.

AB - The analysis included 433 daughters of 10 bulls, calving for the first time in the period from 2007 to 2014, on 6 dairy farms of the Agricultural Corporation Belgrade AD. Fixed factors included in the model were the effects of the farm, year of calving and calving season, and as a random factor the impact of the bull sire. The observed fertility properties on the basis of which breeding values were calculated were the number of days of gestation, the age at the first insemination, the service period duration and the calving interval. Bulls were ranked on the basis of these properties and using the Spearman correlation coefficient, the degree of agreement between the ranks was determined. According to the breeding values calculated by using the Best Linear Unbiased Prediction (BLUP) method, the sire 1517 was best ranked for the trait duration of service period (-34,94 days) and the calving interval (-36,14 days), relative to the average of daughters. The effects of the farm and year of calving showed no significance (p>0.05) except on the duration of the gestation. The effect of the calving season showed a very high significance (p (lt) 0.001) for the following properties: age at first insemination, duration of the service period and calving interval, as well as significance (p (lt) 0.05) for the property duration of the gestation. A statistically very significant degree of agreement between the service period and the calving interval of 0.99** (p (lt) 0.01) was determined by the Spearman coefficient of correlation, while there was no significant difference between the other properties (p>0.05).

AB - This study was carried out in order to investigate the natural occurrence of toxigenic fungi and levels of zearalenone (ZEA), deoxynivalenol (DON) and aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) in the maize stored immediately after harvesting in 2016 and used for animal feed in Serbia. A total of 22 maize samples were collected from four different districts across the country: City of Belgrade (nine samples), Šumadija (eight samples), Podunavlje (four samples) and Kolubara (one sample). Toxigenic fungi were identified according to the morphological characteristics whereas the mycotoxins contamination were detected using biochemistry enzyme-linked immuno-sorbent (ELISA) assay. The tested samples were mostly infected with Aspergillus, Fusarium and Penicillium spp., except that one sample originated from Kolubara was not contaminated with Aspergillus species. Fusarium graminearum was the most common species in the maize sample from Kolubara district (60%), F. verticillioides in the maize samples from Podunavlje (43.75%) and City of Belgrade (22.4%) districts, and Penicillium spp. in the maize samples from Šumadija district (26.38%). In the analysed maize samples the presence of Aspergillus species was low (0-1.78%). Mycotoxicological analysis revealed the presence of zearalenone (ZEA), deoxynivalenol (DON) and aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) in all the investigated samples, except that DON and AFB1 were not recorded in the samples from Podunavlje and Kolubara districts, respectively. The investigated samples were highly contaminated with ZEA, with incidence of 100% for the samples from Šumadija, Podunavlje and Kolubara districts and 88.89% for the samples from City of Belgrade district. In addition, the samples contamination with DON was 100% and 22.2% for the samples from Šumadija, Kolubara and City of Belgrade, districts, respectively. The highest number of AFB1 positive samples was found in Šumadija district (87.5%), while in the City of Belgrade and Podunavlje districts, 55.56% and 50% AFB1 positive samples were established, respectively. Generally, remarkable infection of all the tested samples with toxigenic fungal species from Aspergillus, Fusarium and Penicillium genera were recorded. In addition, high contamination with mycotoxins ZEA, DON and AFB1 were also recorded; nevertheless, only in one sample the level of DON exceeded the allowed legal limit (1750 μg kg-1 ) according to Regulation for unprocessed maize. Therefore, permanent mycological and mycotoxicological analyses of maize grain are necessary for risk assessment of fungal and mycotoxin contamination throughout the food chain.

AB - Assessment of cows' exterior is important because of the assessment of the capability of animals to guarantee, through their overall exterior appearance as well as the appearance of certain parts of the body, not only their good health but also long production life (longevity). The main goal of measuring of domestic animals is to determine the body dimensions, to compare animals of the same or different species, to understand the numerous physiological and biochemical processes that occur in the animal organism. Only by measuring, the accurate and reliable data on the general physical development of the animal and the harmony of its structure are obtained. In the present study, most of the physical measures were taken on total of 954 animals. The average height of the cow of the Simmental breed was 141.95 cm, the length of the pelvis was 51.44 cm, the width of the pelvis was 50.45 cm and the body depth was 78.84 cm. By analyzing the impact of the unified factor of the rearing system and origin, its very significant influence (p <0.001) was determined on all four properties of body development

AB - There are numerous methods for decontamination of animal feed, and a relatively inexpensive method is the application of inorganic adsorbents. Adsorbents from the group of alumosilicates are particularly important, especially bentonite. Inorganic adsorbents are able to detoxify foods contaminated with mycotoxins by their adsorption power, while minimizing the negative effects on the organism.
The aim of this study was to examine and determine whether the use of natural bentonite has an effect on adsorption of aflatoxins from food. The influence of daily intake of bentonite at different doses (30 and 50 g / head) on the content of aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) in milk of examined cows was examined. By mycotoxicological analysis of the feed it was determined that maize grains were infested with aflatoxin B1 (1.24 μg/kg) and that this was the cause of the AFM1 metabolite in raw milk of cows. Based on the results obtained, it was concluded that the content of AFM1 in milk of cows consuming food with a daily intake of 30 and 50 g bentonite was significantly reduced.

AB - The data of the Institute for Animal Husbandry, Belgrade-Zemun have been used to investigate the variability of the properties that are observed in the progeny testing of Simmental bulls. The analysis is based on a sample of 7,845 first-calving heifers in the period 2007-2010. The tests included the following milk properties in the standard first lactation (305 days): milk yield (kg), milk fat content (%) and milk fat yield (kg). An analysis of the production traits of the first-calving heifers under control showed that their average milk yield was 4346.49 kg milk with 3.93% milk fat and yield of 171.11 kg of milk fat. Sires, years and calving season exhibited a highly significant impact (p<0.01) on all the milk properties observed in the progeny testing. Based on the BLUP solution, the rank of bulls for each trait was formed, and then the correlation coefficients of the rank, ranging from 0.402 (relationship between the yield of milk and milk fat content) to 0.989 (the relationship between the yield of milk and the yield of milk fat) were established.

AB - The study, which included 9 Holstein-Friesian bulls from the Livestock Center of the PKB Corporation, analyzed the impact of the ejaculate collection season on certain semen properties (ejaculate volume, sperm concentration, sperm motility in native ejaculate, sperm dilution, number of doses of one ejaculate and mobility of spermatozoa after thawing). For the purposes of this analysis, data for the three-year (2011-2013) and one-year period (2014) were used. In the three-year period, based on 621 ejaculates of three bulls, the average values for examined properties were calculated and the season's impact on these properties analyzed. The results show that the ejaculate collection season had a very significant effect (p<0.001) on the sperm motility in native ejaculate, and a significant effect (p<0.05) on the level of dilution of ejaculate and the mobility of spermatozoa after thawing. In the single-year period, based on 326 ejaculates from 9 bulls, the average values of the studied properties were calculated, and the influence of the season was also analyzed. The ejaculate collecting season showed a very high impact (p<0.001) on the mobility of spermatozoa after thawing, but no significant effect was found on other properties (p> 0.05).

AB - In this study, the total fungal count and contamination with toxigenic fungi from Aspergillus, Fusarium and Penicillium genera of 127 maize grain samples collected from animal farms in subrbs of Belgrade area during 2012-2015, were determined. The total fungal count was determined using a dilution method, and standard mycological procedures were used to identify potential toxigenic fungi genera. In the tested samples of maize grains, the total fungal count was from 1 x 101 to 3 x 106 cfu g-1. No statistically significant differences between investigated years in regard to the mean total fungal count were determined. According to the Regulation on the quality of animal feed of the Republic of Serbia, the total fungal count above permitted limit (2 x 105 cfu g-1) was established in 9.52, 7.89, 20.69 and 55.56% tested samples in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, respectively. Potentially toxigenic fungi from Aspergillus, Fusarium and Penicillim genera have been identified as the most common in all the samples. In most of the samples, based on the average value for the four-year period (2012-2015), Fusarium species (92.22%) have been identified, followed by the species of the genera Aspergillus (80.83%) and Penicillium (48.68%). A weak positive correlation was established between the moisture content of the samples and the total fungal count in 2012 (r=0.41), in 2013 (r=0.27) and in 2014 (r=0.36) and the medium positive correlation (r=0.61) in 2015. Based on the results of mycological analysis of grain maize it can be concluded that the test samples in a relatively large number did not meet the criteria of hygienic quality. Therefore, regular and continuous control of the mycological quality of maize grain as the most important nutrient in animal nutrition is necessary as a preventive measure to reduce and control contamination of grain with mycotoxigenic fungi.
(r=0.41), 2013. (r=0.27) i 2014. godini (r=0.36) i srednje pozitivna korelacija (r=0.61) u 2015. godini.

Therefore, regular and continuous control of the mycological quality of maize grain as the most important nutrient in animal nutrition is necessary as a preventive measure to reduce and control contamination of grain with mycotoxigenic fungi., Ukupan broj gljiva i kontaminacija s potencijalno toksigenim vrstama iz rodova Aspergillus, Fusarium i Penicillium određivani su u 127 uzoraka zrna kukuruza koji su sakupljeni na farmama u okolini Beograda tokom četvorogodišnjeg perioda (2012-2015). (r=0.41), 2013. (r=0.27) i 2014. godini (r=0.36) i srednje pozitivna korelacija (r=0.61) u 2015. godini.

AB - Animal live body weight (BW), body measurements, and their inter-relationship and correlation is imperative for determining genetic potential. In some circumstances in the absence of weighing scales, the body measurements has been used to predicts the live body weight of animals which at the same time is exclusively important to make the right decision at the selection of sheep. The aim of the study was to assess body measurement and the correlation between live body weight and the morphometric measurements of Mis maternal ewes as well as to determine the best fitted regression model for predicting its live weight. A positive correlation between body measurements of Mis maternal ewes ranged from very weak 0.035 (RH-PBW) to high 0.930 (HAW-RH), while a very weak negative correlation ranged from -.016 (HAW-GSB) to -.088 (GSB-RH). With regards to the correlations between body weights and some morphometric measurements showed that the highest correlation was between BW and HG which is 0.853 while the lowest correlation was 0.145 between BW and RH.

AB - The purpose of this study was to investigate fertility in the ewes of MIS sheep population following synchronized oestrus in anoestrus season and natural oestrus during breeding season. Research was carried out on an experimental sheep farm of the Institute for Animal Husbandry in Belgrade. The study included 76 ewes and 6 rams of MIS sheep population (three breed crosses of Pirot Pramenka, Württemberg and Ile de France breed). In anoestrus season, oestrus was synchronized in 43 ewes using progestagen impregnated vaginal sponges (30 mg fluorogestone acetate) in combination with 750 IU PMSG. During the breeding season, 33 ewes were bred naturally to 6 rams, without the use of exogenous hormones. Teaser rams with marking-harnesses and abdominal aprons were used to detect females in oestrus. Obtained fertility and productivity results in anoestrus and breeding season were as follows: lambing rate 69.77% (30/43) and 100% (33/33) (P<0.05).

AB - The purpose of this study was to evaluate present level of productivity and determine linear body traits of Alpine goats raised in Serbia on smallholder farms. Data were collected from 22 smallholder farms located in Belgrade district, with total of 330 purebred Alpine does 2-9 years of age, 145 yearling does and 476 kids. Traits measured were: body weight of does, body weight of kids at birth, 30 days of age and at weaning (90-120 days), prolificacy of mature and yearling (primiparous) does, six linear body traits of does (wither height, body length, hearth girth, chest depth, chest width, pelvic width) and milk production (milk yield, milk fat and milk protein content). The analysis showed the average body weight of does to be 54.96 kg, while the average body weight of kids at birth, 30 days of age and weaning was 2.73 kg, 8.7 kg and 18.3 kg., respectively. Prolificacy was 144% in mature and 125% in yearling does. Measurements of linear body traits were: wither height 67.87 cm, body length 71.92 cm, hearth girth 81.79 cm, chest depth 32.93, chest width 21.49 cm and pelvic width 17.63 cm. Among dairy production traits, following results were obtained: lactation length 220.73 days, total milk yield 531.66 kg, milk fat content 3.33% and milk protein content 3.16%. It was concluded that the overall productivity of Alpine goats raised under smallholder production systems in Serbia is satisfying. Giving the fact that these animals are usually kept under poor conditions, many of these productive traits are very good.
Utvrđene su sledeće vrednosti telesnih mera: visina grebena 67,87 cm, dužina trupa 71,92 cm, obim grudi 81,79, dubina grudi 32,93 cm, širina grudi 21,49 cm i širina karlice 17,63 cm.

AB - To test the variability of fertility traits of Holstein-Friesian bulls monitored in progeny test, reproduction data of 342 cows, daughters of 15 bulls were used. Cows have been in production in seven farms of Agricultural Corporation "Belgrade" in the period from 2004 to 2012. The study included the following fertility traits: the average calving age, service period and calving interval. To analyze the influence of genetic and non-genetic sources of variability a mixed model with random effect of bull - sire, the fixed effects of farm, year, season and order of calving was used. The sire is present in variability of all the observed fertility traits (p <0.01), whereas the fixed factors manifested their influence at different levels of statistical significance. The heritability of fertility traits was low: the average calving age – 0.224, service period – 0.087, calving interval – 0.085. Repeatability of mentioned traits was 0.258, 0.111, 0.102, respectively.
