AB - Cilj ovog rada je bio da se utvrdi uticaj sistema gajenja (podnog i
organskog) i genotipa kokoši nosilja (Isa Brown hibrid i New Hampshire rasa) na
definistati.
AB - The aim of this study was to determine the effect of the rearing system (floor
and organic) and the genotype of laying hens (Isa Brown hybrid and New
Hampshire breed) on the cholesterol content in eggs. On seven occasions during
the one-year production cycle (24, 32, 40, 48, 56, 64 and 72 weeks hen's age), 15
eggs from all four experimental groups were taken, and cholesterol content was
determined on pooled samples. Based on the obtained results, it can be concluded
that laying hens from the floor rearing system had lower cholesterol content in
eggs compared to organic, while the effect of genotype on this trait cannot be
defined with certainty.

AB - U radu su prikazani najvažniji aspekti delovanja egzogenih enzima
(amilaze, ksilanaze, glukanaze, celulaze, hemicelulaze, pektinaze, fitaze i proteaze)
dodatih u hranu za brojlere. Dodatak enzima hrani za brojlere ima nutritivno,
zdravstveno, ekonomsko i ekološko opravdanje. Korišćenje kompleksa egzogenih
enzima kao dodataka potpunim smešama za ishranu brojlerskih pilića u različitim

masti, proteina i nekih mineralnih materija, bolju iskoristivost energije iz hrane,
bolje zdravstveno stanje pilića, bolji kvalitet trupova i pilećeg mesa, smanjenje

AB - This study analyses the effect of different protein levels in broiler feeds (supplemented with
protease), different lengths of fattening period and sex on body conformation in fast-growing
Cobb 500 broilers. Complete feeds for broilers in experimental groups E-I and E-II contained 4
and 6% less crude protein than the control (C) and were supplemented with protease (Ronozyme
Pro Act) at a concentration of 200mg/kg feed and 300mg/kg feed respectively. At 49 and 63 days
of age, 10 male and 10 female broilers were randomly selected from each experimental group and
slaughtered. Body conformation measurement included absolute carcass conformation measures
(metatarsus length, keel length, breast depth, breast angle, thigh girth) and relative body
conformation measures - conformation indices (body weight/metatarsus length, body weight/keel
length, body weight/breast depth, body weight/thigh girth). The results showed that dietary
treatment did not affect conformation measures, as well as that the time of slaughter and sex of
chickens had a significant effect on the examined carcass quality parameters. Namely, the length
of the fattening period affected all conformation indices, as well as some absolute measures of
carcass conformation - metatarsus length, keel length and thigh girth, while sex had a significant
effect on the values of the all absolute values of carcass conformation (except for breast angle)
and indices body weight/keel length and body weight/breast depth.

AB - Intensive broiler chicken production involves different lighting regimes, which affects a natural cycle of secretion of
melatonin, a hormone included in multiple physiological processes in a bird's body. This research aimed to determine the effects of
dietary melatonin supplementation during the first two weeks of broiler chickens' life, bred under constant 24 h lighting, on their health
and some hematological, biochemical, and production parameters. The study lasted 6 weeks. Three hundred and twenty 1-day chickens
were divided into two groups (control - C and experimental - M), with four replications and 40 chickens in each replica. In the first
two weeks (the first phase of the study), a continuous lighting mode 24L: 0D was applied. Group M was receiving a diet supplemented
with 30 mg/kg synthetic melatonin only during the first phase. Group C had a diet without melatonin supplementation throughout the
whole study. Melatonin addition had a statistically significant effect (P<0.01) on the mean values of body weight and daily weight gain
at the end of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th week. The chickens of the experimental group have had a significantly higher value of the
European Production Efficiency Factor (EPEF) (P<0.05). The results presented in this paper indicate a direct benefit in stress relief in
broilers and a value of the organism's antioxidant system promotion, manifested by improved production performance and fattening
efficiency.

AB - The egg production sector is in a transitional period with regard to the permitted housing systems, i.e. rearing in conventional cages under certain conditions to the complete ban of any form of cage system. The changes were caused by concern for the layer wellfare but with the expected effects on productivity as well. The aim of the research was to determine the effects of the floor space allowance in cage and non-cage housing systems on the feather score and egg production of laying hens of three ages, from the aspect of the regulated minimum and optimal space in the cage system (C) and the space provided in the extensive rearing system with hens in smaller groups in the facility (extensive indoor -EI). In order to determine the feather score, the body weight of the laying hens and the weight of the eggs, three groups of laying hens were formed: C4 (564 cm2 per hen, cage system), C3 (751 cm2 per hen, cage system) and EI ( 3000 cm2 per hen, extensive indoor). The feather score and body weight of laying hens were determined in three ages of hens (30, 40, 50 weeks), by individual assessment and measurement of all hens in the experiment. The hen-day egg production and egg weight were determined in the same weeks of laying age. In addition to the expected decrease in feather score with the age of hens, results indicated a significant interaction between age and space allowance per hen. Observed by individual body parts, as well as based on the overall feather score, the space allowance per hen exhibited a full, cumulative effect at 50 weeks of age. Based on the space allowance, it was possible to rank the overall feather score, with the laying hens with the most space having the best feather score. The effect of the space allowance on the body weight of the laying hens was manifested through the space available on the feeder, which resulted in the lowest (p<0.01) body weight values recorded in laying hens of the C4 group. Egg production was not significantly influenced by the space allowance per hen (p=0.069), but a connection between egg production and the housing system can be concluded. The average egg weight, in addition to the known effect of layer age, was the lowest (p<0.01) in the group with the least space allowance per hen.

The average egg weight, in addition to the known effect of layer age, was the lowest (p<0.01) in the group with the least space allowance per hen.",

AB - Key questions for a local broiler farm are: which broiler hybrid to rear and which industrial
feed to use? To show how farmers can manage them, a combination of biological tests and feed
characterizations of the most commonly used hybrids and broiler feeds in the local (Serbian) market was designed and performed. The hybrids Cobb 500 and Ross 308 were used, as well as feed of the same quality category from three established domestic producers (A, B, and C) available in the market. A factorial trial (2 3) was performed on a total of 1800 unsexed day-old chicks divided into six experimental treatments, with six repetitions per treatment and 50 chickens in each repetition.
Prior to and after the biological trial, the feed was characterized. The results confirm the equally
high production potential of the two tested fast-growing hybrids, the different quality of the three
industrial feeds, and that for the expression of genetic potential, each feeding and fattening period
was equally valuable. A complete picture of the tested feeds was obtained within a suitable posttest feed characterization with a farm economy included in the analysis, and the results differed in different production and market scenarios, which allows for finding the optimal feed for the local farm.

AB - The focus of the research was to examine the effects of the addition of different concentrations
of bee pollen to broiler feed on production performance, microbiological composition
of caecum and carcass quality. The study was performed on 1200 chickens divided
into 5 groups with 6 replicates per group. During the test, the broilers were fed with
two complete feed mixtures (starter and finisher) each differed only in the amount of
pollen added: no pollen in control group (C); 0.25% pollen in feed consumed by P0.25
group; 0.5% in P0.5 group; 0.75% for group P0.75; and 1.0% of pollen in feed for P1.0
group. Body weight of the chickens was measured during the change of the mixture, on
the 21st day and at the end of the research (day 42). Average feed consumption, average
daily gain, feed conversion rate, mortality and European Production Efficiency Factor
(EPEF) were determined. At the end of the experiment, 12 chickens of both sexes were
sacrificed from each group, in order to determine the microbiological composition of the
intestines and slaughter performance.
The results showed positive effects of pollen use on production parameters. Chickens
of P0.75 group had significantly higher (p < 0.05) average daily gains and better feed
conversion, also the value of EPEF was significantly higher (p < 0.01) in P0.75 group
compared to groups with lower pollen addition. A significantly higher (p < 0.01) number
of Enterobacteriaceae was found in the cecum content of chickens of C and P0.25 groups
compared to P0.75 and P1.0 groups. No significant differences in slaughter performance
were found. It was concluded that the addition of 0.75% pollen can have a positive effect
on the production performance and the microbiological composition of the intestine.

AB - The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of applying lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and
enzymes mixture inoculants (Sil-All and Silaprilis) on the chemical composition and
fermentation of high-moisture grain silage of two maize hybrids Zenit and ZP 735. Maize
hybrids were harvested at 68-72% of dry matter. Commercial inoculants were prepared and
sprayed following the manufacturer's specifications. Silages were stored in glass jars with a
special valve filled with water in the middle of the lid. Significant differences between hybrids
were found for ash, crude protein, pH, and acetic acid. The hybrid Zenit had significantly higher
ash (14.9 g kg-1
dry matter (DM)), pH (4.03), and acetic acid (6.3 g kg-1 DM), and significantly
lower crude protein (89.0 g kg-1 DM) than hybrid ZP 735 (12.5 g kg-1 DM, 3.98, 5.1 g kg-1 DM
and 101.2 g kg-1 DM, respectively). Compared to control, LAB+enzymes mixture inoculants
stimulated ensiling of high-moisture maize grain. Inoculants decreased the contents of ammonia
nitrogen and acetic acid, and pH value, and increased the contents of dry matter, ash, crude
protein, crude fat, and lactic acid during silage fermentation than control. Accordingly, the
application of LAB+enzymes mixture inoculants is justified and they can be recommended for
high-quality silage production in feeding livestock.

AB - The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of rearing systems
and genotypes on production performance and egg quality. Isa Brown
and New Hampshire genotypes were used in this study. These two
genotypes were housed in floor and organic rearing systems. During the
experimental period, which lasted one year (52 weeks), the following
production performance parameters were recorded: egg production,
daily egg mass, feed consumption, feed conversion efficiency, and
mortality. Fifteen eggs per group were collected for analysis at 64 weeks
of hen age. These samples were evaluated for external parameters
(egg weight and egg shape index), internal parameters (albumen
height, Haugh unit, and the proportions of albumen, yolk and shell),
eggshell quality parameters (shell thickness, shell deformation and
shell breaking strength), and eggs’ chemical composition (dry matter,
minerals, protein and lipids). Generally, Isa Brown hens had better
production performance than New Hampshire hens. At the same time,
organic New Hampshire layers performed better than floor-reared ones.
Genotype had a significant effect on all ten egg quality parameters
(external, internal and eggshell quality), rearing system independently
affected only egg weight, and the interaction of the observed factors
significantly influenced seven parameters. Genotype had a significant
effect on three of the four chemical composition parameters, while no
significant effect of the rearing system was established on the chemical
composition of eggs. The rearing system x genotype interaction
significantly affected the eggs’ protein content.

AB - This study compared weight and percent yields of primal
carcass cuts of commercial fast-growing broiler - Cobb 500 and medium-growing
broiler genotype - Master Gris. Three hundred Cobb 500 chickens and three
hundred Master Gris chickens were used for the experiment. Feed and water were
provided ad-libitum. Treatments were: T1 - corn-soybean meal based control diet;
T2: T1 − 4.0% crude protein than in the control diet + 0.2% protease and T3: T1 −
6.0% crude protein than in the control diet + 0.3% protease. Chickens were
slaughtered at 49 days of age. Medium-growing hybrid Master Gris had a lower
weight of all primal carcass cuts and breast yield (as a percentage of ready-to-grill
carcass weight), as well as higher thighs, drumsticks, wings and pelvis yields in
comparison with the Cobb 500 broilers (P<0.05), except back yield (P>0.05). Also,
the addition of protease to broiler feed had no significant effect on the weight and
percent yields of primal carcass cuts (P>0.05).

AB - Nutrition is very important for maintaining the good health of
people at all stages of life and as such should be the subject of interest not only for
nutritionists, but also for each individual. The choice of food stuffs in the diet is
significantly influenced by habits, and in recent decades it has been noticed that
consumers are increasingly concerned about the way food is produced, its safety
and harmlessness. Although eggs, as a food, have an excellent nutritional
composition, they have had a bad reputation for decades due to the high content of
cholesterol, which was considered bad, which is why many consumers avoided
them or ate only egg whites. The results of research indicating that cholesterol in
food such as eggs has an insignificant effect on blood cholesterol have contributed
to solving the problem of cholestephobia, so that official nutrition organizations,
around year 2000, recommended the abolition of restrictions on egg consumption.
Egg consumption and method of preparation vary significantly among different
countries, which may be related to dietary traditions and consumer preferences.
During the last decades, the attitudes of consumers are gaining in importance and
are being studied in relation to the characteristics of egg quality, according to
production systems, the welfare of chickens, etc. A comprehensive view of
consumers' perceptions, their habits and understanding of the role of eggs in the
diet requires a systematic approach, at the level of the entire social community,
including education, which is especially important for younger populations. The
aim of this paper is to point out the importance of eggs in the diet, to show the
situation in the sector of table egg production in Serbia, with reference to EU
countries, including expected changes caused by changes in the legislation, which
may have far-reaching consequences for this sector, consumers and the market
situation.
