AB  - The present research aimed to investigate the genetic trends for udder traits (fore udder attachment; rear udder height;
udder depth; front teat placement; rear teat placement; front teat length and rear teat length) and angularity of Holstein
Friesian cows in Serbia. A multi-trait animal model was used to estimate genetic parameters, through REML procedures.
In the study 10403 first-lactation cows Holstein type from 12 different regions in Serbia were included. The cows were
daughters of 221 Holstein Friesian sires. The age at first calving was from 19 to 44 months, and there were 10 stages of
lactation. Udder type traits and angularity were classified by 24 classifiers on a linear scale of 1 to 9. Udder type traits
had heritability estimates ranging from 0.03 for rear teat placement to 0.12 for fore udder attachment, and angularity had
heritability 0.10. Genetic trend for angularity of Holstein Friesian cows in Serbia shows that ribs are becoming less
angular and extremely rounded, while genetic trends for udder traits show that teat lengths are becoming longer and
inside of quarter, and udder is shallow. The genetic trend for fore udder attachment indicates there is indirect selection
for weaker udders.

AB - The objective of this research was to study phenotypic expression and factors that can affect
milk yield traits in the population of Simmental cattle breed in the Republic of Serbia. The
research was conducted on a set of data that included records on the production and origin of
Simmental breed cows displayed both in regional and municipal exhibitions in the territory of
the Republic of Serbia in the period from 2004 to 2017. A final data set included records on
production and origin of 1176 Simmental breed cows. The animals were raised in the area
covering 9 regions of the Republic of Serbia. The research included most important milk
yield traits in standard lactation: milk yield, milk fat content, milk fat yield, yield of 4% fat corrected milk (4%FCM). An average milk yield in studied population accounted for
5.520±919 kg, milk fat content 3.94±0.11%, milk fat yield 218±38 kg, while the yield of 4%
fat-corrected milk accounted for 5.474±933 kg. It was determined that region, age and
lactation had a very high statistically significant effect on studied traits while the age of cows
had no statistical effect.

AB - Cattle comprise a species of a domestic animal that is primarily bred for milk
production. The birth of a calf is the initiator for the lactation period and the sex of the calf can affect
milk yield. Additionally, a calf from a new pregnancy can affect the lactation from the previous
calving, since the mother gets pregnant and remains pregnant during most of the lactation, usually at
lactation peak. Therefore, the aim of this paper was to further investigate the possibilities of sexually
biased milk production of Holstein and Holstein crossbreed cows using data from the Republic of
Serbia. We also wanted to test the Trivers–Willard (TW) hypothesis that natural selection favors
unequal parental investment between daughters and sons under certain maternal conditions. At the
same time, this hypothesis assumes that mothers in good health and condition invest more in sons,
while mothers in a poor condition invest more in daughters. The obtained results deviate from the
view of the TW hypothesis because it was found that milk and fat yields in the first two lactations
were the highest in cows that had a female calf and were then pregnant with a second female calf
while the lactation from the previous calving was still in progress. We were the first in the world to
investigate the effect of the sex of calves at first and second calving on milk yield and fat yield in the
first and second standard lactation, depending on milk production levels on farms.
AB - In order to examine the biased milk production depending on the sex of calves, data
on calving and milk yield characteristics of 15,181 Holstein type cows in PK Belgrade, Serbia were
analyzed. A total of 30,362 lactations that were realized in the period from 1985 to 2017 were analyzed.
Data were prepared and analyzed using the SAS software package (SAS Institute Inc. Software
License 9.3, 2012). The expression and variability of investigated traits were determined using the
PROC MEANS procedure, while the effect of individual factors on milk yield traits was analyzed
using the PROC GLM procedure. Obtained results deviate from the views of the Trivers–Willard (TW)
hypothesis. The results indicate that mothers invest more in female offspring by producing a higher
milk and fat yield in the first and second lactation compared to male offspring. This is especially
emphasized under better environmental conditions. The highest milk yield (7788 kg) and fat yield
(271 kg) in the second lactation were achieved in the combination with two consecutive female
calves in the group of higher-than-average milk production farms, and lowest in the combination of
two consecutive male calves (6783 kg for the MY and 243 kg for the FY), respectively.

AB - Data set including 10860 primiparous Holstein-Friesian breed
cows first calved in the period from 2011 to 2015, was used in determining
phenotypic variability and correlation between the traits of milk yield and linearly
estimated traits of udder and angularity. The average values obtained for type traits
(angularity, fore udder attachment, front teats placement, teats length, udder depth
and rear udder height) were 6.47; 5.74; 4.96; 5.20; 5.99 and 6.25, respectively.
The values obtained for phenotypic correlations between linear type traits and traits
of milk yield ranged from -0.042 (udder depth and milk yield) to 0.335 (fore udder
attachment and protein yield). Positive phenotypic correlation (0.293) was recorded
also between fore udder attachment and milk yield which is deemed the most
important trait of milk yield while the lowest correlation between milk yields was
determined in relation to udder depth (-0.033). The results obtained indicate a
possibility of applying direct and indirect multiple traits selection which should be
conducted within a national progeny-testing programme on Holstein-Friesian bulls
by using the method of selection indexes.

AB - The objective of this research paper was to estimate heritability coefficients (heritability) of growth traits in the lambs of indigenous Sjenicka Pramenka breed. The research was conducted on a sample which included 421 lambs the descendants of 15 sires and 187 sheep-dams, raised on 3 private farms in Kolubarski district, Serbia. The effect of fixed factors was studied while the values of heritability coefficients were estimated within the frame of SAS software package. A statistically highly significant (**=P<0.01) effect on studied traits had following parameters: sex, year of lambing, type of lambing, farm and method of applied reproductive technology. By means of REML method and using the sire model the values of heritability coefficients were determined for the following traits: average lamb birth weight (BW0), average lamb body weight at 30 days (BW30) and average lamb body weight at 90 days (BW90) being: 0.0355; 0.4642 and 0.3018, respectively.

AB - The objective of this paper was to compare heifers reproductive traits and characteristics of their
calves after artificial insemination performed by conventional (non-sexed) and sexed sperm on 6
commercial farms in Serbia. Conception rate was 55% and 44% for conventional and sexed semen,
an average gestation length being 274.6 and 274.9 days, respectively. Average body mass at birth
was 37.47 and 36.75 kg for non-sexed and sexed semen, respectively. The rate of stillbirths and
twinning was 6.19 and 3.78% for conventional and 7.54 and 1.13% for sexed semen, respectively.
The use of conventional semen exerted no statistically significant (P>0.05) effect on female: male
calves relationship (51.96 : 48.04) while artificial insemination by sexed semen highly significantly
(P<0.01) changed calf sex-ratio (85.10 : 14.90). First-calf heifers originating from sires whose sperm
was obtained in conventional way produced 7880 kg milk with 269 kg milk fat and 242 kg protein in
standard lactation, while first-calf heifers originating from sires whose sperm was sex-sorted
produced 8184 kg milk with 251 kg milk fat and 242.3 kg protein. Type of insemination (conventional
and sexed semen) did not significantly affect the studied milk yield traits (P>0.05).

AB - This research was conducted with the aim оf estimating genetic trend for a functional length of productive life (FLPL) in the population of Black and White cattle in Serbia. Research and bulls genetic evaluation for functional longevity were performed on a set of data provided by Agricultural Corporation Belgrade AD (PKB) which contained data on longevity and origin of 22109 cows out of which 26% records were right-censored. Functional length of productive life (FPLP) represents a time period from the first calving to culling or censoring corrected for milk production. Breeding values were estimated using Weibull method of proportional risks within survival analysis a genetic trend for FLPL was calculated using of a regression analysis. The cows included in the analysis were on average first calved in the age of 809 days and had an average share of 81.9% genes of Holstein Friesian breed. An average length of productive life was 1267 days (41.6 months). Distribution of bull standardised breeding values did not statistically significantly differ from normal distribution. An average standardised breeding value was 99. A slightly positive genetic trend was determined, that is, the length of functional productive life was by selection increased by 0.021 day at an annual level while a reliability of estimated breeding values showed a negative trend.

AB - The research was performed on Holstein-Friesian and Black and White bull dams reared on five farms of Agricultural Corporation of Belgrade - PKB. The study included 575 lactations of cows selected as bull dams and their progeny calved in the period from 2007 - 2014 and represent progeny of 24 bulls. The following dairy traits were analysed in a standard lactation (305 days): milk yield (kg) - MY, milk fat content (%) - % MF, milk fat yield (kg) - MFY, protein content (%) - % PC and protein yield (kg) - PY. Holstein-Friesian bull dams and their progeny, in standard lactation, produced on average 9239.84 +/- 1607.64 kg of milk, with a milk fat content of 3.44 +/- 0.20 and protein content of 3.21 +/- 0.12. The impact of bull - sire, year of birth, lactation order, farm, year and calving season was present at different levels of statistical significance on yield traits, while the genetic group had no influence on any of the milk traits. Bull sire, year of birth, lactation order and calving season did not influence the variability of milk fat and protein content. Heritability of observed milk traits was medium to low. The content of milk fat and protein had the lowest values of heritability, 0.014, and 0.024, respectively. The heritability of milk yield, milk fat yield and protein yield was 0.293, 0.319 and 0.273, respectively.

AB - The conducted research was aimed at constructing equations of selection index that would be used in the selection of the Holstein-Friesian breed animals in Serbia. The construction of the selection index includes the most important milk traits observed in standard lactation: milk yield (MY305), milk fat content (% MF305) and protein content (% MP305). The variance and covariance necessary for the construction of selection index are calculated using the mixed model by the method of least squares. The economic value of traits is expressed as a ratio of relative changes in costs per unit of traits included in the selection index. Livestock included in the research produced, in the first standard lactation, an average of 7681 kg of milk with 3.58% milk fat and 3.28% protein. The equation of the selection index presented in the paper is selected from the group of equations of selection index, as an equation with the highest correlation between the equation and the aggregate genotype, which amounted to 0.2156.

AB - This research paper gives an analysis on the size of world's domestic buffalo populations, their milk production and the size of buffalo population in Serbia. Population of domestic buffalo in the world is constantly increasing so that in 2013 there were 199 783 549 individuals, out of which in India in the same year they raised 57.77% of buffalo world population, in Pakistan 18.87%, and in China 11.64%. The share of total world production of buffalo milk in total world milk production in 2012 was 12.92 % or 97 417 135 t out of which 67.76% was produced in India. In Serbia buffalo is raised in the regions of Raška (about 1000 individuals) and Kosovo. Populations of buffalo in central Serbia show a tendency of decreasing in size what was the reason to start a programme of in situ conservation 10 years ago. On the sample of buffalo population encompassed by the programme of conservation the body measures were analysed indicating that the population of buffalo is quite unequalised and that average values obtained for exterior measures are similar to the results obtained by the authors of earlier period for the population of buffalo in the area of former Yugoslavia.

On the sample of buffalo population encompassed by the programme of conservation the body measures were analysed indicating that the population of buffalo is quite unequalised and that average values obtained for exterior measures are similar to the results obtained by the authors of earlier period for the population of buffalo in the area of former Yugoslavia., U radu je analizirano brojno stanje domaćih bivola u svetu, proizvodnja mleka bivola, kao i stanje populacije bivola u Srbiji.

AB - The effect of systematic and continuous environmental factors on milk performance traits over standard lactations in 2805 Simmental cows was evaluated using the general linear model. The systematic factors included the effect of farm or breeding area, calving season, year of birth, season of birth, lactation group and their interactions. The continuous factor analysed was the effect of age at first conception. The effect of farm, lactation group and calving season on standard lactation milk performance was found to be highly significant (P (lt) 0.01), excepting the effect of calving season on milk fat percent in standard lactations which showed statistical significance (P (lt) 0.05). The interactions between year and season of birth, farm and calving season, and farm and lactation group had a highly significant effect (P (lt) 0.01) on all performance traits studied. Age at first conception, as a continuous factor, had a highly significant effect (P (lt) 0.01) on milk yield and milk fat percent, and a non-significant effect on milk fat yield. The model used to correct the performance traits over standard lactations for the effect of systematic factors was highly significant (P (lt) 0.01). The variance of the model accounted for 20.06 and 37.31% of the total variance of milk fat yield and milk fat percent, respectively. The resulting coefficients of determination (R-2) ranged from 0.20 for milk fat yield to 0.37 for milk fat percent.

AB - The work includes the review of production results, i.e. milk performance phenotypes of Black and White Holstein cows in Central Serbia. The analysis of quantitative phenotypic parameters was carried out in five regions (breeding regions) on several large and small farms which housed 1090 cows - first calving heifers.
Using the method of Least Squares - the fixed model, highly significant deviation of milk yield, milk fat from the average (P < 0.01) was established. Cows reared in the region 4 in the first lactation produced 503 kg less milk compared to the general average and 852 kg less milk than those reared in the region 3. Birth year caused statistically significant differences in milk yield and milk fat yield (P < 0.05), except % of milk protein where no significant variations (P> 0.05) were determined. Season in which the cows had calved caused a highly significant deviation of milk yield (P < 0.01) and significant deviations of yields of milk fat and protein (P < 0,05).

AB - In order to have a more precise description of dairy farm structure and characteristics of dairy production systems, as well as to assess possibilities for improving production and farming conditions in which milk production is organized, a survey based research was directed at a select group of farms across the Serbia. 1180 questionnaires have been mailed to farmers whose farms are registered for either cattle or mixed production. Questionnaire was divided into 6 sections: general information of the farm, agricultural and structural information, zootechnical information, sanitary and veterinarian information, information about education and extension, and information on the perspectives of future farming. About 59% of analyzed farms have size up to 20 ha, with average size of about 10 ha. On the other hand, about 55% farms raises up to 15 cows and heifers with average of 6 heads per farm, while 3% of farms have more than 200 cows and heifers. Over 86% of surveyed farmers intend to expand existing farm production, mainly by increasing the number of animals, stricter selection and improvement of the conditions for feeding, housing, care and milking. About 75% of farmers have expressed a positive expectation from future membership of Serbia in EU, although these expectations are not clearly defined.

AB - The effect of interaction between the farm and calving season, as well as the farm and group of lactations on milk performance traits (milk yield, yield of milk fat, 4% fat corrected milk and milk fat content) was analyzed on sample of 2805 Simmental cows with total 9718 standard lactations, housed on dairy farm 'Zlatiborski suvati' on Zlatibor (578 cows and 1968 lactations), dairy farm of the Agricultural holding Dobričevo in Ćuprija (964 cows and 3237 lactations) and dairy animals housed on family farms/households in the region of Kotraža (1263 cows and 4513 lactations). The significance of the effect of interaction between the farm and calving season, as well as interaction between the farm and group of lactations on all milk performance traits was very high (P (lt) 0.001), which justified their inclusion into models for assessment of the breeding value of dairy cows. The share of variance of interactions in total variance of milk performance traits in standard lactations was low (below and around 4%), which clearly indicated even more systematic factors and their interactions which influence the total variability of observed traits of milk performance of cows in standard lactations.

AB - In this study a relationship between the milk yield and following reproduction traits: number of inseminations per conception [AIS], service period [SP], age at calving [AC], calving interval [CI] and birth weight [BW] is studied. The research involved dairy cows of European type of Black and White cattle which are being intensively improved by the genes of Holstein - Friesian breed. Mean values of general average for number of inseminations per conception, service period, age at calving, calving interval and birth weight are: 2.00; 98.78; 1088.08; 376.70 and 36.40, respectively. In general, the estimated phenotypic correlations (rp) between the milk yield over standard lactations and fertility traits were positive and unfavorable, and ranged from 0.24 for the relationship between milk yield and birth weight to 0.70 for relationship between milk yield and age at calving.

AB - In this paper, principles of traditional production and main characteristics of Sjenica cheese and Pirot kachkaval are presented. Sjenica cheese belongs to the group of soft, white cheeses in brine and it is produced as autochthonous product made of sheep milk, on the territory of Sjenica-Pester plateau. Pirot kachkaval is firm cheese of steamed curdle produced from mix of sheep and cow milk (1: 2 ratio) on the territory of Stara Planina Mountain. These are geographical areas where production takes place in village households/farms and on mountains in summer cottages (katun, bacija), which is characteristic of craft dairy processing. Specific traits of traditional manufacturing of Sjenica cheese and Pirot kachkaval derive from climatic conditions, characteristic grass associations of the specific mountain region and milk from autochthonous populations (Sjenica and Pirot sheep). In order to maintain the traditional manufacturing technology of these native products and to have organized production, it is necessary to protect the geographical origin of these products.

AB - In this paper the results of the analysis of the milk somatic cell count are presented, as well as correlation between the somatic cell count and content of certain chemical parameters in milk (milk proteins, fat, lactose and dry matter without fat) determined in collective samples of milk obtained from cows reared in intensive rearing system, during two production years. The research was carried out by control of collective milk samples from cows reared on family holdings. Somatic cell count, as well as the chemical quality of milk, were controlled daily in the laboratory for raw milk in dairy plant AD 'Mlekara' - Subotica using the apparatus CombiFoss 6200 FC. In this investigation, statistically significant correlation (P (lt) 0,001) between all observed milk parameters was determined. Positive, weak and statistically highly significant correlation between the content of milk fat and proteins in milk and somatic cell count was established. It was also established that the variability of chemical parameters of milk and somatic cell count is also under the influence of different factors, such as: month of control, year of the research and farm.
AB - U radu prikazani su godišnji rezultati ispitivanja broja somatskih ćelija u mleku, mlečne masti, proteina, laktoze i suve materije bez masti, u zbirnim uzorcima mleka krava u intenzivnoj proizvodnji u toku dve proizvodne godine.

AB - The paper presents results of investigation of milk yield by lactation, by order, and mother's body weight on growth rate of kids of the domestic Balkan goat. Daily weight gains of 376 single kids (168 male and 208 female), in three monthly intervals, and their final body weight at 90 days of age were established. Variability of analyzed traits was presented using descriptive statistics parameters, and differences of growth traits for weight gain of kids resulting from the effect of milk yield of female goats by order of lactation were investigated by single analysis of variance. The effect of independent variables, mothers' milk yield and body weight, on body weight of kids was tested using multiple regression analysis. During the entire suckling period, established average values for kids body weight differed significantly (P (lt) 0.001), increasing from the 1st toward later lactations. At 90 days of age the lowest values were established in kids from the youngest mothers (11.86 kg), while for kids of mothers in the fourth or later lactations these values were higher (13.93 kg). Coefficients of determination indicate that the variability percentage for individual growth traits of kids was in the 0.08 - 0.17 interval, indicating its significance. Both 'b' coefficients (b1 and b2) are positive and statistically highly significant, except for coefficient b2 in the analysis of body weight of kids at birth. The positive sign and high statistical significance indicate a pronounced effect of mother's milk yield and body weight on the body weight of kids up to 90 days of age.

Both 'b' coefficients (b1 and b2) are positive and statistically highly significant, except for coefficient b2 in the analysis of body weight of kids at birth. The positive sign and high statistical significance indicate a pronounced effect of mother's milk yield and body weight on the body weight of kids up to 90 days of age., U ovom radu prikazani su rezultati ispitivanja uticaja količine mleka u laktaciji po redu, i telesne mase majke na porast jaradi domaće balkanske koze do 90 dana.

AB - The relationship between milk production traits over whole lactations was evaluated across three generations of Simmental cows, i.e. between daughters, dams and grand dams, by a phenotypic regression analysis with whole lactation traits in the daughter generation being used as the dependent variables (x1), and those in the dam and grand dam generations being used as the independent variables (x2 and x3). The results were obtained from a sample of 1170 daughters and as many dams and grand dams. The significance of the partial regression coefficients b2 and b3 was separately evaluated by a t-test. An analysis of variance was used to estimate the significance of the simultaneous effect of the production traits of dams and grand dams on the milk production achieved in the daughter generation. The calculated value of the partial regression coefficients for the whole lactation production traits across three generations (grand dams, dams and daughters) and their statistical significances determined by the t and F tests, as well as the regression equations used, suggested that the effect of the grand dam generation on the milk production traits in granddaughters was substantially lower than the effect of dams. The calculated partial regression coefficients (b2 and b3) were positive and statistically very significant (P (lt) 0.01), excepting the regression coefficients b3 for lactation length and b2 for milk fat content that were not statistically significant (P>0.05). A very significant change (P (lt) 0.01) was observed in all production traits in the daughter generation as simultaneously affected by the traits in the dam and grand dam generations.

AB - The paper gives the analysis on the state in population of Simmental cattle reared in Europe with a special review on the state in Simmental cattle in our country which makes about 80 % total cattle fund in Serbia, and is characterized by a negative trend in the number of cattle, as well as by a low average milk production per cow. The most important results obtained by both domestic and foreign authors by means of various methods of improving Simmental breed and its raising in different systems have been shown. The directions for improving Simmental cattle according to the productive directions have been analyzed. Possible methods of improving the Simmental cattle in our country have been pointed out, which should be in accordance with already existing genetic potential of each actual population, its purpose (registered breeding stock, production breeding stock), as well as with the market needs for cow milk, milk products and meat (primarily beef meat, for export). A special emphasis has been given to the importance of organizing the production of meat in the cow-calf system in which Simmental breed, following the model of many European countries, should have good performance also in our country, if the same production should be organized in deserted hilly and mountainous regions. In this way we could contribute to more significant increase in overall beef production, and to reactivate unused natural resources as well.

AB - Body development and type are very important indices of production ability of cows, their capacity to consume sufficient quantity of food, produce technologically high quality milk, reduce the energy consumption in production of milk, remain in exploitation as long as possible and give more progeny. This research included 278 cows of Simmental breed selected into the category of bull dams on the territory of Republic of Serbia. By application of method of least squares following average values of exterior measures were obtained: height to withers 136,04 cm; carcass length 165,81 cm; breast depth 73,61 cm; breast girth 201,12 cm; body mass 695,29 kg. Regions influenced statistically highly significantly all investigated exterior traits (P (lt) 0,01). Year of measuring had no statistically significant effect (P>0,05) on body development of Simmental bull dams. Obtained values were considerably uniform without any greater oscillations. .

AB - Results of the effect of direct and indirect selection on quantitative properties of milk production of first calving Simmental cows in Serbia, are presented in the paper. Analysis of quantitative phenotypic parameters was carried out in four breeding regions and certain number of smaller farms where 1319 daughters of 13 bull sires were reared. Results of the analysis were obtained by application of mathematical-statistical data analysis, using mixed models (Harvey, 1990). Mathematical-statistical analysis of data was carried out using linear methods with fixed effect, through method of least squares (LS method), and for evaluation of bull breeding value mixed model of random bull sire effect was used (BLUP method). Based on obtained results it was established that analyzed breeding region has statistically highly significantly (**P (lt) 0.01.) caused deviations of production phenotypes from general average. Season and year of calving (*P (lt) 0.05.) have caused significant variations of production properties. .
AB - U radu su prikazani rezultati efekata direktne i indirektne selekcije kvantitativnih svojstava mlečnosti krava-prvotelki simentalske rase goveda u Srbiji. Analiza kvanitativnih fenotipskih parametara je obavljena u četiri odgajivačka područja i na više desetina manjih farmi na kojima je držano i gajeno 1319 kćeri, 13 bikova-očeva. Rezultati analize su dobijeni primenom matematičko-statističke analize podataka, korišćenjem mešovitih modela (Harvey, 1990). Matematičko-statistička analiza podataka je obavljena korišćenjem linearnih metoda sa fiksnim uticajem, preko metoda najmanjih kvadrata (LS metod) a za ocenu priplodne vrednosti bikova korišćen je mešoviti model slučajnog uticaja oca (BLUP metod).Na osnovu dobijenih rezultata ustanovljeno je da je odgajivačko područje statistički analizirano visoko značajno (**P (lt) 0.01.) prouzrokovalo odstupanja proizvodnih fenotipova od opšteg proseka. Sezona telenja i godina (*P (lt) 0.05.) su prouzrokovali značajna variranja proizvodnih osobina. Rezultati odstupanja osobina proizvodnosti pod uticajem godine telenja ukazuju na pozitivne tendencije u povećanju prinosa mleka . Značajna odstupanja (P (lt) 0.05) je izazvala godina telenja i na prinos mleka i mlečne masti. Godišnje doba početka laktacije krava obuhvaćenih našim istraživanjem pokazuje visokoznačajna odstupanja prinosa mleka i mlečne masti u odnosu na opšti prosek (P (lt) 0.01). (1997 i 2006). (2005) i Pantelić i sar.(2008).

AB - The effect of systematic factors on production traits over complete lactations was investigated in 2,805 Simmental cows born in 1982 and onwards. The cows were housed at three farms in different areas: at the Zlatiborski Suvati dairy farm, Zlatibor, at the Dobricevo Agricultural Farm, Cuprija and at private farms in the region of Kotraze. The systematic factors (farm, calving season, lactation groups, group (year x season of birth), farm x calving season and farm x lactation group interactions) and age at first conception had statistically highly significant (P (lt) 0.001) effects on all complete lactation traits, with the exception of the effect of calving season on complete lactation duration (P (lt) 0.05) and milk-fat content (P>0.05). No statistically significant effect was produced by age at first conception on complete lactation duration and milk-fat content (P>0.05). Determination coefficients ranged from 0.100 in complete lactation duration to 0.361 in milk-fat content.

AB - The main goal of this paper was to investigate the influence of some additives included into high yielding dairy cows rations to overcome the problems in early lactation. These substances directly affect the productive performances of dairy cows as well as udder health. The commercial name of investigated preparation is 'YEASTURE' and it is composed of live yeast cultures selected from three strains Saccharomyces cerevisisiae in combination with probiotic bacteria and enzymes (Lactobacillus casei, Streptococcus faecium, Aspergillus oryzae, Lactobacillus acidophilus, 1,3-b and 1,6 D-Glucan, hemicellulase, Protease, Cellulase, Alpha amylase) which have the ability to modify the fermentation in rumen stimulating the development of ruminal bacteria and increasing the fibre digestion. Effects of this preparation have been investigated on 60 Holstein-Friesian cows divided into two groups. The diets were identical, and trial group received also 10 g of preparation Yeasture daily. Application of Yeasture started 15 days prior to calving and lasted until 60th day of lactation As a research result improved in vitro disappearance of diet dry matter from roughage (alfalfa hay, maize silage and ensiled sugar beet pulp) was established. Preparation Yeasture influenced quantity and composition of the milk. The difference between trial and control group was 2.57 kg 4%FCM or 8.70% (P (lt) 0.01) and 7.16% milk fat (P (lt) 0.05).Trial group supplemented with Yeasture showed lower somatic cells count by 7.3 percent points what indicated better health of cow's udder. Based on the presented results it can be concluded that inclusion of preparation Yeasture into diets for dairy cows in transition period can be recommended.

AB - Animals require microelements in small quantities, and they play a role in virtually all physiological and biochemical processes. The role of microelements is important role from bone structure to maintaining the structure of proteins and lipids. Microelements are provided to animals in food, by special supplementation (premixes), or in water. In addition to essential minerals, which are regularly used in goat nutrition, there are 10 other elements present in traces (mg/kg or ppm) which are also indispensable for the goat's organism, as follows: Fe, J, Cu, Zn, Mn, Co, Mo, Se, Cr, F. In addition to these, following elements have also been identified in goats' tissues: Al, B, Ge, Cd, As, Pb, Hg, Ru, and Nb, however their significance for the organism of goats has still not been established. Their lack in goat nutrition may to a large extent contribute to lower yields and bad health.

abstract = "Animals require microelements in small quantities, and they play a role in virtually all physiological and biochemical processes.
