AB - DNA analysis can have great practical application in the
management and successful operation of the farm. The application of DNA
technology is becoming a tremendous challenge for farm breeding of domestic
animals. In recent years, traditional selection methods have been supplement by the
results of molecular analysis of the genome. Determining the genetic distance of
sheep and goat breeds had practical and multiple significance. Microsatellites are
used widely in the selection, and genomic selection is becoming an increasing
challenge for breeders. The development of SNP chips brings an immense
advanced for rapid and comprehensive analysis of the genome, which is of great
importance for the successful selection and Genomic selection in sheep
concentrated on all aspects of genetic and production directions. However, it
should be noted that genomic selections in sheep breeding, and especially in goat
breeding, take place at a slower pace compared to cattle breeding.

AB - The main farmers goal is breeding of pure sheep breed outside the kinship. That way they want to preserve and improve qualities of the breed, such as high production of meat, milk or wool, strong construction, high fertility, length of productive life, health, etc. It is a challenge for breeders because it represents a management planning balance between homozygosity and heterozygosity. Breeding sheep in a purebred requires a certain level of genetically predictable homozygosity to promote desirable traits. Balancing is appropriate to avoid inbreeding depression. A particular problem arises in small populations, which have only hope in the line breeding system. This review paper discusses iptions to overcome this situation.

AB - In pasture breed condition helminth infection are common especially during late spring and autumn months. Research of goats and sheep parasites was made systematically last 10 years in Serbia. Most of the research related to gastrointestinal and something less about lung helminth infection. The research was carried out on several location in Serbia in the period and included goat and sheep herds in the area of carried out in north, northeast, eastern, southern and south-eastern part of Serbia and at Belgrade area. We examined fecal samples using the Berman method. Slaughtered or dead animals we examined by necropsy and adult parasites separated from the lung section. Determination of adult and larval stage of parasites was based on morphological characteristics. During our examination most abundant species was Dictyocaulus filaria, followed by Protostrongylus rufescens, Cystocaulus nigrescens and Muellerius capillaris.

AB - Quantitative genetic analysis of variability and relationship of
lambs body weight traits in indigenous pirot sheep population are done. The the
examined lambs had high variability which very suitable for selection on a larger
weight. There is a high and very significant correlation between the body weight of
lambs with 30 and 60 days (.969 **) and the weight with 30 and 90 days ( .914 **).
There is also a highly significant correlation between the weights of lambs with 60
and 90 days of age (.904 **). From our research, we can see that the first month of
the lamb's life is very important for the further development of the body. There is
different level of correlation between weight of lambs. This gives us an idea to say
that many paragenetic factors are crucial for the growth of lambs from birth to
weaning. The coefficient of multiple determination (R2) is 0.845 which means that
8.45% of the lamb's body weight variance at 90 days is determined by the variance
of the set of predictor variables (PI-60, 30, 1). Each increase in lamb body weight
during the observed periods of age is associated with an increase in the score of
depending variable PI90. In particular, any increase in lamb body weight at birth
by 1 kg is associated with an increase in lamb body weight from 90 days by 0.238
kg.

AB - Sheep have the ability to transform the relatively low quality food into high quality protein of animal origin (meat, milk). To increase the efficiency of feed utilization and minimize pollution of the environment, it is necessary to better understand the needs of lambs in nutrients (primarily energy and protein) and their interaction in the organism. Optimal ratio between energy and protein in the diet of lambs optimizes microbial protein synthesis and maximum retention of degradable nitrogen in the rumen. The excess of the energy consumed in the diet, will be transformed into fat, as the degree of increase of muscles and bones is limited. Feeding lambs diets deficient in the protein, leads to the formation of large amounts of fat in the body. The decline in the efficiency of energy use, in case of the surplus of protein in the diet, is associated with energy consumption for the formation and excretion of urea.
The results of our study showed that lambs crosses of Pirot Pramenka Wuerttemberg x Ile de France of average body weight of about 15 kg and 30 days of age and fed with a diet containing 4% beef tallow (7.71 MJ NEM and 16% CP) realized significantly (P<0.05) higher average daily gain and final body weight compared to animals that have consumed feed with 6% beef tallow and 7.94 MJ NEM. Also, animals on this treatment realized the best conversion of dry matter, protein and energy. The above nutritive treatment did not significantly affect the meat yield, the yield of meat per categories and morphological composition of the carcass side.Bearing this in mind, the aim of this paper is to present our own, and the results of other authors, related to the optimization of energy and protein levels in diets for fattening lambs.

AB - In this paper the results of analysis of different source of variation that have influence on daily gains of simmental bulls in test are presented. The analyzed factors were year and month of calving, herd of origin and group in test. Year of calving was important source of variation for almost all daily gains while influence of month of calving as well as influence of group in test varying and depends on the nature of daily gains. Herd of origin was not significant source of variation for daily gains in test while was significant for ADG before test as well as for lifetime ADG.

AB - Selection of sheep according to milk yield is increasingly present especially in Mediterranean countries due to production of high quality cheeses, for instance hard cheese. This demands knowledge of genetic parameters of milk yield traits, as well as of the effect of paragenetic factors. Investigation of these paragenctic factors was objective of this paper. Investigations were carried out in the region of Stara planina mountain on population of Pirot Pramenka sheep breed. The effect of year, lactation, type of birth and number of offspring on milk yield was investigated. It was established that the effect of year as paragenetic factor varied from not significant to significant. Lactation had significant effect on milk yield since the lowest value for the milk quantity was registered in the first and the highest in third lactation. Type of birth had no significant influence on investigated trait. The size of litter had significant influence on milk yield since higher quantity of milk was established in case of sheep with twins compared to ship with single offspring.

AB - Livestock husbandry participation in total agriculture production of Serbia is unfavorable (41% of total value). Sheep and goat breeding particularly lag behind. Sheep production participate with extremely low percent in total world production in this branch. Sheep and goat breeding importance was declining for a long period of time. An increase of interest for sheep breeding was noticed in early nineties since it was more resistant to the economy hardships than pig and poultry production. Concerning the natural conditions, cultural heritage and other social aspects, regional and geo-strategy importance of this production, we consider this increase of interests for sheep and goat breeding necessary to support. Sheep and goat breeding prospective should be seen as a valuable component of the highland rural revival, since this production have considerable advantage comparing to other branches of livestock husbandry in the present private possession dominated environment. However valorization of this potentials could not be increased without transforming complete agro industry and social environment. Important role in this process of changing have state and its institutions, but also market and related components of total national economy structure. If this changes provide favorable environment we could expect soon a significant increase of the amount and quality of the sheep and goats production. .

AB - The investigation was carried out on the sheep farm on the mountain Stara planina. The trial included two sheep genotypes: 1. Pirot pramenka sheep and 2. Improved Pirot sheep. In order to estimate necessary parameters the least squares method was used. The obtained results show that heritability of milk yield was 0.35 and 0.33, fat percent amounted to 0.49 and 0.44, while protein percent was 0.50 and 0.49 (in the 1st and 2nd genotype, respectively). Results on the genetic correlation between important parameters of milk showed that there were both, positive and negative correlations. Coefficient estimations of genetic correlations of certain traits varied from very weak to strong. Correlations between fat yield and milk yield were 0.87 and 0.88, but the coefficient between protein percent and fat yield was -0.01 and -0.04, in the 1st i.e. 2nd genotype, respectively. There are no significant differences between observed genotypes.

AB - Sheep and Goat - farming still have great economic importance and opportunities for further development in Serbia. One million ha of Yugoslav meadows surface are in Serbia. Majority of meadows are situated in mountainous regions far away from life environment pollutants. 328.750 sheep are property of Vojvodina, 407.000 of Kosovo, make a total of 2.575.000 sheep in possession of Serbia, 4-6% of the total are property of government farms 3% are in cooperation and 93% on private farms. 4.000 goats are bred on government farms. 23.0001 of lamb and sheep meat was delivered from this regions of Serbia which made 37,7% of the total Yugoslav production. Yugoslavia exported 2.327.000 kg in kind on foreign markets, and 40% of that amount was from Serbia. Mountainous region of Serbia, according to our investigation, is a perspective producer of biologically more valuable food with great possibilities of using the existing comparative advantages.
AB - U brdsko-planinskim područjima Srbije nisu dovoljno iskorišćene komparativne prednosti za proizvodnju biološki zdravijeg mesa i proizvoda (mleko, sir) ovčarstva i kozarstva.
